What do we do when darkness seems to get darker?
When life is scary, when voices all around us so harashy and strongly, when it seems the darkeness is getting darker, what do followers of Jesus do?
1. We lean more and more into Jesus, who shines bright and full of hope in any land of murkiness.
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
Isaiah 9, 750 BC
2. We followers of Jesus, the church, we repent of our own sin and places of darkness, and ask Him to fill us with His light today, and every day.
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
I really like how Pastor Kevin DeYoung put it in writing to his church, fellow-strugglers with darkness in our culture and world:
Yes, I get concerned about the way of the world. I get concerned about politics. I get concerned about what’s going to happen in November and if there are any good candidates out there. I care about all of those things. But you know what I care about a whole lot more? Is the spiritual integrity of the church. Because it’s only the church that will last forever. It’s only the church that Jesus has promised to build. And whatever may come in our country or the world around us, may be good or bad for the church; but if the church is strong, and if the church is consistent, and if the church has integrity; then whatever persecution, whatever waywardness, whatever wandering in the world, may just spell the best days ahead for the church. Because the light shines that much brighter when there is more and more darkness.
